Responsible Gambling

Odds Uni publishes probabilities. A probability is not a promise, and nothing on this site is a reason to stake money you need.

Start here: what a prediction actually claims

This is the part most often misread, so it is first.

When a model says a team has a 70% chance, it is saying it expects to be wrong about three times in every ten. That is not a hedge or small print — being wrong 30% of the time is what 70% means. A run of losses inside a correct model is normal and expected.

High confidence is the same statement in stronger terms. It is never certainty. There is no such thing on this site as a pick that cannot lose, and you will not find one advertised here.

Our full published record — wins and losses, with the sample size behind every figure — is at Results. It is worth reading precisely because it contains the losses.

Keeping it entertainment

  • Only ever stake money you can afford to lose entirely. Not money for rent, food, bills, debt or anyone who depends on you.
  • Decide the amount before you start, not during. A limit set while losing is not a limit.
  • Never chase a loss. Increasing a stake to win back what is gone is the single most reliable way to turn a bad day into a serious problem.
  • Do not borrow to gamble. Not from a card, a loan, an app or a person.
  • Do not gamble to fix a mood. Boredom, stress, loneliness and anger are bad reasons, and they are the usual ones.
  • Keep track of the total, not the last result. Memory strongly favours wins. Written records do not.
  • Take real breaks. If you cannot stop for a week, that is information.

Signs it has stopped being entertainment

Any one of these is worth taking seriously. Several together usually mean the problem is already established.

  • Staking more than you planned, repeatedly.
  • Chasing losses, or betting bigger to get back to even.
  • Hiding it, or lying about how much or how often.
  • Borrowing, selling things, or using money meant for something else.
  • Missing work, study, sleep or people because of it.
  • Feeling anxious, irritable or low when you are not gambling.
  • Believing a particular result is owed to you.

Where to get help

Free, confidential, and independent of Odds Uni. This list is not exhaustive — most countries have a national service, and a local search will find it.

If you are worried about someone else, these services support families and friends too, not only the person gambling.

Tools your operator has

Odds Uni is not a sportsbook: we do not accept wagers, hold funds or settle bets, so we cannot limit or close a betting account for you. The company you actually bet with can, and is generally required to offer deposit limits, time limits, cooling-off periods and self-exclusion. If you need them, ask that operator directly, or use a national self-exclusion scheme where one exists.

Age

Gambling is age-restricted everywhere it is legal — 18 or older in most places, 21 in some. Odds Uni's analysis is not intended for anyone under the legal age where they live, and it is your responsibility to know whether gambling is lawful for you at all. In many places it is not.
